Robert T. Kuehl

Legal Experience

Bob is a trial lawyer with extensive state and federal litigation experience, having prosecuted and defended both legal and equitable claims.  Since his admission to the Illinois Bar in May of 2000, he has, on behalf of businesses and individuals, tried scores of cases (jury and bench trials), completed numerous depositions, and handled many mediations and arbitrations. 

Bob has experience in the following areas:

  • Commercial litigation
  • Foreclosure litigation
  • First-party property insurance claims
  • Civil asset forfeiture proceedings
  • Defamation, malicious prosecution, and invasion of privacy torts
  • Mechanics lien disputes
  • Judgment enforcement 

He clerked for the Honorable Sheldon Gardner when he sat in the Individual Commercial Calendar Section of the Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.  In addition to his other accomplishments, Bob was Managing Attorney of the Chicago office of a national law firm.

Admissions and Memberships

Admitted to practice law in all Illinois state courts, Bob is also a member of the general bar and the trial bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.  He is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois.

Bob is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Christian Legal Society, the Chicago Bar Association (CBA), the Illinois Creditors Bar Association, the Kane County Bar Association, the DeKalb County Bar Association, and the Kendall County Bar Association.  He was the 2012-13 Chair of the CBA Law and Literature Committee, the 2014-15 Vice-Chair of the CBA Tort Litigation Committee, a 2015-16 Co-Chair of the CBA Tort Litigation Committee and the CBA Law and Literature Committee, a 2016-17 and 2017-18 Chair of the CBA Law and Literature Committee, and its current Chair.  He is a current Board of Managers Director of the Kane County Bar Association, whose newly-formed Wellness Committee he chairs.

Publications

Bob has co-authored two articles: Understanding Punitive Damages in Contract Cases, 15 COM. DAM. REP. 293 (2000) and Acquiring an Historical Understanding of Duties to Disclose, Fraud, and Warranties, 104 COM. L. J. 168 (1999).  His article Contemplating Illinois' Interest on Judgment Act Amendment appears in the November/December 2021 issue of the Kane County Bar Association Bar Briefs.

Education

In 1994, Bob earned an undergraduate degree in English, cum laude, from Saint Olaf College, where he was awarded Departmental Distinction.  During his senior year, he spent a semester studying literature, law, and architecture in Oxford, England. 

Bob received his Juris Doctor from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1999.

He is also a graduate of Fred Lane's ISBA Trial Technique Institute.

Personal

When not working, Bob loves spending time with his daughter.  He is an avid runner and also enjoys traveling and coaching AYSO soccer.
